Concrete Issues
Preventing corrosion of concrete and weakening of building structure – magnesite and concrete cancer prevention
Magnesite can be found across many older buildings within Sydney, typically being multi storey apartment buildings. Magnesite is a floor leveler which was used during the construction of many buildings. Unfortunately, due to concrete being porous, any floor with Magnesite as a floor leveller is at extreme risk of concrete cancer due to chemicals that leach out from flooded magnesite, causing the concrete reinforcement to corrode and weaken the structure of the building. This is an extremely important factor, which unfortunately most flood technicians are not familiar with.
It is extremely important for the long term benefits of the building, that any flooded magnesite flooring is dried as quickly as possible. Fortunately, FloodMaster are familiar with identifying and drying magnesite, employing methods to minimise damage during the drying process and identifying any previous or recent damage to magensite to be repaired by a builder or competent tradesperson upon completion of restoration.
